As we continue through the summer, our events and courses continue in the Nomadic Dye Garden.
Our August Natural Dyeing Summer School has sold out and we continue to teach in the garden on Thursdays. Other than that, things are quieter in the build up to our Open September, more information to follow.
This page will be a central calendar for the Nomadic Dye Garden and the Nave Gallery. Please bookmark this page, as there will be a host regular events over the course of the summer and we will regularly be updating this hub as more events are confirmed.

An Introduction to Saori Weaving
29th + 30th July, 1-4pm
Dutch born Erna Janine is an accredited Saori teacher trained in Japan. She lives in an old wool mill complex in Gloucestershire. During lockdown – a year without any extended stays or overseas textile residencies in India and Japan, she turned to her own “back yard” for inspiration: Stroud’s industrial textile heritage. No prior textile experience is needed for these introductory sessions. Please bring your (naturally) dyed samples of cloth and yarn or use any of the available materials that will be provided. The looms will be set up outdoors in the Nomadic Dye Garden teaching area. Places are limited so each participant will experience hands-on personal tuition.
Nature’s Palette (July Course Sold Out) and Summer School Natural Dyeing (August Course)
‘Nature’s Palette’, on Tuesdays in July, forms the foundations of a comprehensive natural dyeing course. We refer to Jenny Dean’s ‘Colours From Nature’ as our dyeing resource. The workshops will produce a portfolio of dyed samples in a range of fibres. The knowledge and technical skills gained will explore the beauty of Nature’s Palette, covering all natural dyeing groups. On completion, you will have the ability to be a competent natural dyeing practitioner and confidently pursue your own creative direction. The course is being delivered again as the Summer School Natural Dyeing Course on Thursdays in August.
As part of our summer events, we are running Wednesday morning natural-dyeing drop in sessions. These are not formally taught but offer a more relaxed social atmosphere where you can come and dye your own samples, meet other natural dyers and textile artists and have a chance to chat with other like minded creatives. They also offer the ideal chance to dye samples to use in Wolf & Wilding’s Dyeing to Stich session running in the afternoons.
Dyeing to Stitch (Wednesdays)
As part of our summer events, we are running Wednesday morning natural-dyeing and afternoon stitching drop in sessions. These are not formally taught but offer a more relaxed social atmosphere where you can come and dye your own samples, meet other natural dyers and textile artists and have a chance to chat with other like minded creatives.
‘Addressing Space What 3 Words’ – Studio 21 Textile Group Show
24th July – 8th August, Thursday – Sundays, 12-4pm
In this group exhibition, the work was created as a response to the what3words app. The app offers a simple and virtual way to talk about location, by splitting the world into 3 metre squares and addressing each one with its own 3 unique word combination. From this starting point the artists have developed a dialogue with their own personal space and its address on the planet.
The exhibition runs for 2 weeks in the Nave Gallery and is open to the general public.
