Roots, Shoots & Leaves

The busy summer for us continues, with Ross exhibiting in ‘Roots, Shoots & Leaves‘, the new exhibition at the Upstairs Gallery in Berkhamsted, running from the 18th of July to the 5th of August.

This the the second exhibition organised by From the Earth (this time in conjunction with the Upstairs Gallery), exploring a wide variety of works made from natural fibres, up-cycled materials and natural dyed and or printed materials.

‘From the Earth was an event which took place in June 2016. Its aim was to promote ethical textile practices in the broadest sense, through the use of natural dyes and printing processes, natural fabrics and fibres, with particular reference to those produced in ethical ways, up cycling and incorporating other natural materials and ‘found’ items. The Exhibition, which took place at the Mardleybury Gallery, Datchworth was a great success and included British and international artists.’    Upstairs gallery

This year, artists have truly risen to the occasion and produced some beautiful and creative pieces including stunning 3D pieces, beautiful stitching, gorgeous colours and fabulous weaving. During the run of the show, there will be a ‘Meet the Artists’ day on July 26th (11-3pm) where you have the chance to discuss the work with Ross and some of the other exhibiting artists, and on the 28th there is an Indigo dying workshop run by Jenny Lesley.

Ross is showing 4 groups of work in this show, ‘Waterloo Bridge, Grey Weather‘, ‘Nest‘, ‘Scrim Bowls‘ and ‘Fractured Landscape I II III‘ and this grouping highlights the great variety of the work he has been producing within the themes he is exploring. Last year’s show was a great success with artists such as Alice Fox, Louise Wainwright and Jane Mercer exhibiting, and this year’s show promises to be even better!
